Your knowledge stays yours

OwnSpace keeps your data on your own devices. We never store your notes on our servers.

Local-first

Your notes are stored locally on your device in open Markdown files. No proprietary formats. No vendor lock-in. Your data remains accessible with or without OwnSpace.

Offline-first

OwnSpace works even without an internet connection. Create, edit, search and organize your knowledge anywhere. Internet access is only needed for optional synchronization and updates.

We can't read your notes

OwnSpace never uploads the contents of your notes to our servers. Our servers only deliver the application, website and authentication required for optional cloud synchronization.

No centralized storage

There is no central database containing your knowledge. Your devices remain the source of truth. Cloud services are used only as an optional synchronization layer.

Your cloud, your account

If you enable synchronization, your files are stored only in your own cloud account, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or other supported providers. You stay in control of your data at all times.

Open Markdown files

Your notes are plain Markdown files. You can open, edit and move them with other tools whenever you want. No proprietary database.
